Power Transfer

What is the power relationship between the knowledgeable and the less knowledgeable?
Being knowledgeable about something gives you a boost and an advantage over those who are not knowledgeable about that subject. The foremost power you will have is that you will be a voice that will be heard or one can even be called an authority in that subject. I remember an experience I had when I just joined my current organization. I noticed that the method the other teachers used to teach phonics seem to focus more on grapheme than phonemes. I spoke to the school management and I was allowed to introduce a phonics program to the other teachers. I didn’t only facilitate professional development workshops on that phonics program; I was made the head of phonics teaching in the preschool. The main thing that gave me an edge over my colleagues is the phonics knowledge I have.
Looking at the power of knowledge from a broader perspective, it is glaring that countries who acquired knowledge in the pre-industrial era got economic power which translated to military might. Countries like the United States of America where most of the world’s inventors like Albert Einstein on electricity, Henry Ford on cars brought prosperity and civilization which translated to economic might.  Other countries now look up to America as a result of the power of knowledge.
The power relationship between the knowledgeable and the less knowledgeable is that the latter will defer to the former.
Is the currency and capital of knowledge geographic?
I don’t agree that the currency and capital of knowledge is geographic because the world has now become a global village.   Information is available to anyone seeking for knowledge in any part of the world. An example of this is the online Master’s program we have all enrolled in without leaving the comfort of our resident countries.  With the coming of internet, books, compact discs, You tube, etc; the barriers of acquiring knowledge have been broken.
Why do we educate?
We educate to build a world of knowledgeable people. Since knowledge is power, it can be said that education is an instrument for raising powerful people. Educated people will experience a decent and meaningful life; they will respect cultural diversity and dissimilarities and make a living from their knowledge. Education will put an end to ignorance and its effects.
What should be in the school curriculum?
The school curriculum should be able to meet the individual learning needs of students. It must be broad enough to express the fundamentals of knowledge. The school curriculum should combine theoretical, practical, emotional, social and vocational learning in order to raise a total student.
